  1. Does the cartridge work immediately when installed, do I have to flush it with water for a certain time? (For self-installation)

To activate a newly installed filter, allow the first five minutes of water to run through it; turning the filter upside down once or twice to assist the filter in flushing the air bubbles out. If the filter has not been used for a few days, allow the water to run for 2-3 minutes to flush the filter.

  2. How do I install the Counter-Top System? (For self-installation)

1.The Counter Top System can only be installed on to a tap with a removable aerator (mesh and cap) with a standard metric thread. It is ideal for taps using mixer-level system or the conventional twist tap handles.

AQ-4000 Installation Instructions - These instructions should provide satisfactory attachment in 90-95% of instances. In an uncommon situation where the tap has no aerator or a rose-shower head, or an imperial or other unusual thread, the system will not fit. You may want to consider purchasing the Under-Sink Installation Option.

  3. What is the flow rate of the filtered water?

The filtered water flow will typically be about 2 litres/min at 50 psi pressure, slower at lower water pressure.

  4. What is the maximum water pressure I can use with the Aquasana Counter-Top Filter?

The filter cartridges are tested for 80 psi. The normal operating pressure is 50 psi.

  5. Why is Cryptosporidium a problem and is it filtered?

Cryptosporidium is a parasite which can cause severe diarrhoea. Cryptosporidium can live as a very chlorine-resistant cyst of 3-4 micron size in water. But the sub micron filtration of Aquasana filter is able to filter it (>99.99%).

  6. What happens to the filter when hot water is run through by accident?

While the filter will not be damaged by momentarily running hot water through it, it should not be used with hot water. Prolonged exposure to water over 32°C will degrade the strength of the soft plastic hose and will eventually lead to leaking.

  7. Has the Aquasana Filter been tested by any independent institute?

The Aquasana AQ-4000 Filter has been tested and certified under NSF International against ANSI/NSF Standard No. 53 (Health Effects) and Standard No. 42 Aesthetic Effects (taste and odour reduction). NSF International is the world’s leading testing and certification laboratory for water filter. NSF certification is your assurance that:

    1. Claims are true
    2. The system does not add anything harmful to the water
    3. The system is structurally sound
    4. The literature and labeling are not misleading
    5. The materials and manufacturing process used do not change
  8. How often should I replace the Filter?

The designed capacity of the Aquasana Filter Model No.4025 (replacement part number) is up to 4000 litres* (*depending on local water conditions) but to ensure optimum performance, the manufacturer recommended to change it every 6 months to prevent any possibility of bacteria growth or degrading of filtration efficiency.

  9. I have been away for a few weeks, can I still use my existing Aquasana Counter-Top Filter?

Absolutely, assuming it has not entirely used up ... just proceed as you would when installing a new filter. We do recommend that you flush the system (2-3 minutes) after a prolonged period of non-use.

  10. What should I do with my Filter if I go on holiday?

Nothing, simply flush 2-3 minutes when you return.

  11. How does bottled water compare to Aquasana filtered water?

Some brands of bottled waters are more expensive litre for litre than petrol and in quality terms are subject to less rigorous testing than tap water. Aquasana filtered water is an excellent alternative to bottled waters and it generally costs 2000-4000 (4¢/litre) times less of the cost of bottled water while sacrificing nothing in taste and quality.
