  1. Does the cartridge work immediately when installed, or do I have to flush it with water for a certain time?

You will need to flush the system for a few minutes until the water comes out clear. Your shower stall will become soiled with carbon fines unless you use a bucket to capture the initial 2 litres to 4 litres of water. This discolored water is extremely beneficial to plants and will not hurt the environment or plumbing if you simply flush down the drain.

  2. Will the flow-rate of the filtered water be slower than the flow of unfiltered water?

Due to the unique design of the filter, there is only a slight pressure drop of 5%.

  3. What is the Aquasana Shower System AQ-4100 system certified to remove?

There are currently no certification standards or processes for Shower Filters. The Aquasana AQ-4100 was, however, tested by an independent laboratory that certified the system for 75%-90% removal of chlorine.

  4. What operating water pressure is required for the Aquasana Shower Filter system?

The filter can be used from approx. 1.4 bar (20 psi) up to 5.5 bar (80 psi). The most common pressure in households is 3 bar (42 psi).

  5. What happens to the filter when hot water is run through the filter?

Nothing, the AQ-4100 was designed to work on water up to 46°C (115 degrees F). Normal shower 35-41°C (95-105 degrees F).

  6. Has the Aquasana Shower Filter system been tested by any independent institute?

Yes, the system was tested by Terra Lab Engineers, an independent state certified laboratory in Utah, U.S.

  7. How often should I replace the filter?

The shower filter cartridge is good for 38,000 litres. At 9.4 litres per minute, that works out to approximately 4000 minutes of shower time. If your total household showering time is 20 minutes daily, you will need to replace the cartridge approximately after every 200 showers, that is about 6 months.
